So the 626 Night Market turned out to be everything I expected, and…worse. They couldn’t have picked a worse location for this event. Pasadena is already small, but the corner they picked is one of the most congested in the city. Couldn’t they have done it in Alhambra or San Gabriel? I expected traffic congestion getting there, lack of parking, huge crowds, and the possibility of not being able to try any food sold there. So all these things – magnified ten fold. The minute I got there, I wanted to leave.
I found myself pushing through people all night. Crowd surfing came to mind. I don’t think any of the food vendors expected such a massive turnout, so a lot of the booths ran out of food by the time my group and I got there. And the booths that did have food had millions of people waiting in line. And by “line” I mean hordes of people shoving each other to move towards the counter but no one’s actually moving at all. It was just an overall nightmare. Many of my friends came and left after 15 minutes and got dinner at various restaurants. After about 40 minutes or so, we gave up, walked over to Wokcano for dinner, and didn’t get to eat until 10pm.
Bottom line: No sense of coordination and organization. Line dividers would’ve been nice. Needs more vendors. Needs a bigger city and bigger spot to do it in. Needs ample parking to handle this type of crowds. Complete nightmare, complete and utter fail.
As you notice, all my photos have just people in them:
