Lotus of Siam, Las Vegas, NV

It’s nice to get away from the tempting buffets once in a while when you’re in Vegas. I’ve heard from friends that Lotus of Siam is one of the best Thai restaurants ever; so I thought, “Why not?”

This is where the expression “don’t judge a book by its cover” applies. You’ll probably be turned off by the location – quiet plaza, might even be a bit ghetto by Vegas standards, not much happening, and the restaurant itself looking slightly rundown from the outside. But the interior is hugely different – nicely decorated with a wine wall, light blue carpet, giving you a homely feel.

Now, onto the food:

Lotus of Siam Las Vegas NV, garlic prawns, prawns, garlic shrimp, crispy shrimp, shrimp shell, prawn shells, big shrimp, fried shrim, friend prawn, thai food, thai restaurant

Garlic prawns appetizer. This is probably one of their specialities. I’ve never had prawns served this way before, where the shrimp meat is taken out of the shell, with the shell still attached at the tail, spiced and deep fried, and you eat the entire thing. Do not toss the crunchy shell because that’s actually the best part!

Lotus of Siam Las Vegas NV, drunken noodles with soft shell crab, noodles, rice noodles, soft shell crab, noodles with crab, crab noodles, drunk noodles, spicy noodles, stir fried noodles, thai food, thai restaurant

Drunken noodle with soft shell crab. I’ve never had this combination before. This dish comes with choices of beef, chicken, salmon, and soft shell crab. I’ve never had drunken noodles with anything other than beef or chicken so I couldn’t help but opt for soft shell crab and it was the best combination ever. The noodles had just the right amount of spiciness, and the marinated soft shell crab surprisingly remained crispy.

Lotus of Siam Las Vegas NV, beef jerky, marinated beef jerky, beef, spicy beef, dry beef, spicy dry beef, thai food, thai restaurant

Beef jerky. I know what you’re thinking, you can buy beef jerky in a package at Walmart. But you probably haven’t had jerky in a restaurant! It may look weird to you on a plate but it is yummy. It is a little chewy, so my jaws got tired from chewing for a while, but I think it was worth the pain. 😛

Lotus of Siam Las Vegas NV, stuff chicken wings, chicken wings, angel wings, chicken, deep fried chicken, fried chicken, stuffed fried chicken, thai food, thai restaurant

Stuffed chicken wings. Another delicious choice. Hollowed out chicken wings then stuffed with ground pork and various other grounded veggies like mushrooms and bean sprouts.

Lotus of Siam Las Vegas NV, beef salad, stead salad, marinated beef, marinaged beef salad, thai food, thai restaurant

Grilled beef salad. Sliced marinated beef on a bed of salad sprinkled with spices.

Lotus of Siam Las Vegas NV, stir fried beef with string beans and pepper, pepper steak, thai food, thai restaurant

This was the only dish I wasn’t too thrilled about. Stir fried beef with string beans. Tasted just like any other stir fried dish at any other Thai restaurant. But hey, nobody’s perfect. 🙂
