Thai Specialty, Brea, CA

Eating at Thai Specialty, one word comes to mind: simple. It is a small restaurant with very simple decoration and simple entree dishes. Although the food is average, the service is quick and friendly.

Thai Specialty Brea CA, tom yum hot pot, tom yum soup, thai soup, thai tom yum, thai restaurant, thai food

We ordered a ton of food, however. Tom yum hot pot consisted of a lot of mushrooms and maybe five pieces of shrimp. The soup tasted average.

Thai Specialty Brea CA, thai restaurant, thai food, fried rice, chicken fried rice

Chicken fried rice looked and tasted plain. I didn’t detect any special herbs or spices like other fried rice dishes at other Thai restaurants. You could play the “spot the chicken” game with your friends.

Thai Specialty Brea CA, thai restaurant, thai food, seafood stir fried, squid, shrimp, scallop, vegetables, spicy seafood

I think this is probably the best dish out of everything we ordered. Mixed stir fried seafood consisting of squid, shrimp, scallop, and vegetables. Right amount of spiciness and not too salty.

Thai Specialty Brea CA, thai restaurant, thai food, bbq chicken, barbeque chicken

BBQ chicken was decent. They didn’t care much for presentation apparently. Just basically pieces of chicken on a plate and a small bowl of dipping sauce.

Thai Specialty Brea CA, thai restaurant, thai food, tofu, deep fried tofu, fried tofu

Fried tofu saved the day. They actually made it crispy on the outside and soft on the inside; plus, the dipping sauce was excellent.

Thai Specialty Brea CA, thai restaurant, thai food, papaya salad, papaya

Not the best papaya salad I’ve had. Maybe they didn’t make it spicy enough, but rather, a bit on the bitter side.

Bottom line – this place was our last-minute find after attending an event and we wanted to avoid the crowds from this event and they were the only one around that took reservations. It was hot, we were hungry, and the AC saved us all.
