Chapman Coffee House, Orange, CA

I’ve made a mission in life to seek out as many great coffee places as I can, other than Starbucks, Coffee Bean, Peet’s, and It’s A Grind. Don’t get me wrong, they’re all great places, but I also like finding unique coffee and homely atmosphere to enjoy it in. And Chapman Coffee House is just the place for that. My morning urge for coffee has led me to this coffee house – a farther drive than normal (all in the name of coffee) – situated right on the corner of Glassel and Walnut. I’ve passed by a few times in the past but this was the first time I’ve gone in. Driving there, though, reminds me why I never went in. There is no parking. Huge drawback. Driving around finding “No Parking” signs everywhere did not help. But I got lucky and found a close by open spot on the street.

Stepping inside almost felt as if I just stepped inside someone’s house. All they needed in place of tables and chairs was a comfortable couch and coffee table, and I would call this place my home away from home. Little baby stairs take you up into a small homely room, equipped with a fireplace (wasn’t lit, though), artsy picture frames on the wall, coffee table, and chairs around the room. My only complaint is that they don’t have couches in this room or this would be a perfect romantic place to go for a coffee date. 😉

As for coffee drinks, I would say it has decent taste. I’m a white chocolate lover so I had to try a cold iced white chocolate mocha latte. The guy behind the counter asked what type of milk I preferred. I really didn’t care so I said “doesn’t matter.” My drink ended up tasting quite sweet. D’oh! Well, I’ll take sweet over bland any day. And you can’t have a cold drink without a pastry to go with it so I wanted to try their baklava, and it was yummy! I love pastries so this was perfect – fluffy layers of filo pastry filled with nuts and sweetened with honey.

I would definitely come back here to enjoy some coffee, nom on sweet treats, use their free Wifi to doodle online, or just relax in a cozy and homely atmosphere.
