One of the reasons I love travelling for work is that I get to eat out at different restaurants, all expenses paid. 😀 What’s even better is when I have family in the city I travel to and they take me to great restaurants that they know for sure I won’t be disappointed.
My cool cousin picked me up from the airport and the first thing I wanted to do was get dinner. Shocking, I know. So he took me to his favorite Thai restaurant, Archi’s Thai Bistro, one of the better Thai restaurants in town. The place has a very upscale look and feel, and knowing me, a germaphobe, cleanliness is probably my #1 requirement.
Let’s get on with the yummy food:
Fried wontons for appetizer. Let’s just say I wasn’t too thrilled. I’ve had better fried wontons, where the wontons are super crispy, even in the bottom where all the meat is, and that they don’t look so flat. The wonton texture was a little too…flour-y to me. I do love the spicy sweet and sour dipping sauce.
When I travel and eat, there’s a part of me that wants a little taste of home. So to me, eating rice is comforting. Not plain rice, though, but fried rice, just because it tastes better. Crab fried rice is one of my favorite rice dishes. Although the taste is all there, we could barely see and taste the crab. Perhaps the shredded crab has been blended a little too well into the rice or whatever reason, we just couldn’t tell.
This is mint ground pork. As the name suggests, it has a spicy minty kick which I love. But I remember it was slightly on the salty side, but that will even out if you eat it with plain tasteless white rice.
The pork fried rice was also pretty good. There’s actually a decent amount of pork pieces mixed in – unlike Thai Harmony Cafe – with asparagus, mushrooms, and tomato.
You can’t go to a Thai restaurant and not order either pad thai or pad see ew. Both are stir fried rice noodle dishes, but pad thai is just too sour for me, so I usually aim for pad see ew instead. Our chicken pad see ew was delicious. Not oily and had a good amount of meat, unlike Thai Harmony Cafe.
Overall, this place is definitely a must-visit if you’re ever in Vegas and want to wander around looking for good food other than strip buffets, not that there’s anything wrong with buffets. But for me, it’s refreshing to try new places so I can bookmark them for future travels. 🙂
